Privacy Policy

Alter ("we", "the service") is a tool for producing and publishing short-form video. This policy describes what we collect, why, and who we send it to. It covers altr.video and nothing else.
What we collect
- Account data — your email address and a hashed password. We never store your password in a readable form.
- Content you create — brands, scripts, quiz rounds, captions, uploaded and generated media, and the render and publishing history attached to them.
- Connected-account credentials — access and refresh tokens for accounts you choose to connect (see "YouTube" below). These are stored so the service can publish on your behalf and are never shown in the interface or shared.
- Operational data — server logs and error reports, which may incidentally contain your IP address and browser user-agent.
We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Why we collect it
Solely to operate the service: to authenticate you, to generate and render the content you ask for, to publish it to the accounts you connect, and to diagnose failures. We do not use your content to train machine-learning models.
Who we send it to
Producing a video means calling other companies' APIs. Each receives only what that step needs:
- Anthropic — prompt text, to generate scripts and captions.
- ElevenLabs — narration text, to synthesise voiceover audio.
- Pexels — search terms, to find stock imagery.
- Google / YouTube — video files and their metadata, when you publish (see below).
- Postproxy — video files and captions, when you publish to Instagram or TikTok.
- Cloudflare R2 — media file storage.
- Resend — your email address, to send login emails.
- Sentry — error reports, for debugging.
- Hetzner — hosting for the application and its database (Germany).
YouTube
Alter uses YouTube API Services to upload videos to a channel you connect. By connecting a channel you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service , and Google's handling of your data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy .
When you connect a channel we store an OAuth access token, a refresh token, and your channel's id and title. We use them only to upload videos, caption tracks and thumbnails that you have explicitly asked us to publish. We do not read your viewing history, subscriptions, or anyone else's data.
You can revoke our access at any time — either by disconnecting YouTube in Settings → Accounts, which deletes the stored tokens, or through Google's security settings page , which revokes them at Google's end. Revoking does not remove videos already published to your channel; delete those in YouTube Studio.
When you disconnect in Alter, the stored tokens and channel data are deleted immediately, and in any case within 7 days. If you revoke through Google's security settings instead, we delete the same data within 30 days of the revocation. Any other data obtained from YouTube API Services is either refreshed or deleted within 30 days, except for aggregate statistics such as view and subscriber counts, which we may keep for longer to show you how a video performed over time.
How long we keep it
Content and account data are kept until you delete them or ask us to close your account. Deleted media is retained briefly in a soft-deleted state so that accidental deletions can be reversed, then removed. Tokens for a disconnected account are deleted immediately. Error reports and server logs are retained for a limited period for debugging.
Security
Traffic is served over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed. Every request is scoped to your organisation, so one account's content is not reachable from another's. No system is perfectly secure, and we make no guarantee that it is.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, correction of it, or its deletion, by emailing the address below. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page.
